The heater master power switch. I've added warning labels advising operators to not shut off the master power until the unit completes its cool-down cycle (Google melted diesel cab heater fans if you want to see what happens if you don't do this).

The switch is mounted on the side of the board I wired to run warning lights and other added accessories. The cab heater was added after all the warning lights and other aftermarket items were installed.

Also visible is a CO detector. It's actually showing some CO as I had just started my truck outside the garage as it was parked backed in with the tail pipes dumping into the garage, so I know they work. They alarm at 50ppm.

Thanks for this post. My 2024 build is just starting. Im trying to to gather as much knowledge as possible. Heat and defrost is crucial in Michigan. I wonder how that setup will clear the windshield.? Or if i would run ducts ip to defrost. What is all the wiring on the bulkhead for.?
 
The panel on the bulkhead has equipment for warning lights and accessories (spotlight, white work lights, Bluetooth speaker, power ports, etc.).

You can split ducts and run heat multiple places. Making a run long enough to reach the windshield could slow the output flow enough to trigger a fault (I'm not an expert in these heaters but there's info on diesel heater forums suggesting this could be an issue).

Our units have OEM heat and defrost, but an idling diesel doesn't make allot of heat. I tested ours last winter and idling with OEM heater on high at 0°F & no wind showed a max cab temp of 43°F after 2 hours. And we can end up working these 24/7 in ND, MN & WI so we need more heat.

I wonder if dumping the heat into the cab as we did and adding a small fan (like school busses use) to the roll bar and aimed at the windshield would work?

I like the fan idea. And the heater sounds like a must have for Michigan winter.
 
Marschb, I remember growing up in Southern Michigan and my dad making us walk up hill to school and uphill from school in dead winter in at least chest deep snow....and we were 3 miles at least from the school...

And, we had no dang Roxor thang.....

Skool teached mee to drive in the snow. Not walk in it ….up hill with two creek crossings.! Haha

I grew up in NW Minnesota and had to walk through the woods to the township road to meet the bus. No big hills, but you had to watch out for exploding trees when it was really cold!
