has anyone ever had to upgrade there alternator to higher output amperage,
or know of any aftermarket higher amp alternators ? I thought on here somewhere
I read of a new unit can be purchased. Please direct me to the link or maufacturer

I haven’t checked on the upgraded alternator lately but I don’t believe it’s available as most accessories were dropped. I tried to order one back when the accessory line was just starting to get pruned to nothing. What I found was that no one had them in stock. Back then they were pricey at about $500. I did succeed in finding out that some more were going to be coming in but the price was nearly $1000. I do not know if those ever came in. That leaves the only options of trying to rebuild your current one to a higher output if that’s even possible or buying a regular higher output alternator and making that one work and adding a 12v vacuum pump for your brakes. So far I have only seen the 12v vacuum pump and regular alternator idea suggested with no one actually putting it in use.
 
See diesel freak for second alternator that keeps original as is but adds 2nd 150-200 amp alternator. Not cheap ($700) but seems to be a great choice.
