If they bought new ones, unless they got a deal from a dealer, they would have paid the $899 plus they would want $ for the tune I assume.

That's replacement part cost from a dealer, but I know I had to replace a CDI on a quad a while ago, and it wasn't cheap either.
RXR Performance has them listed. Not cheap, either.
